Learner-Centered Instruction

Moving towards the teacher being the "facilitator of learning" instead of as the "sage on the stage" holding all of the information provides students with invaluable opportunities to build much needed skills. Students are able to increase their ability to gain information  independently while meeting the educational goal of deepening a students learning and research abilities. Encouraging collaboration, motivating students, instilling opportunities for reflection, building 21st century skills, and increasing critical thinking are all characteristics of learner-centered instruction.

Collaborative learning and Lab

Collaboration facilitates learner-centered instruction and aids students in enhancing critical thinking skills while encouraging a group mentality for research, learning, and inguiry based lab.  Students are able to work together through various learning modalities to achieve comprehension, application and analysis.

Using Interactive Notebooks to Support Inguiry-Based Teaching

The incorporation of interactive notebooks into my classroom has enabled students to chart and graph data, extend and support vocabulary development, organize lecture material, and deepen content knowledge.

Independent Practice

Creating lessons that offer students the opportunity to work through presented content with guided and independent practice helps builds lasting interest and confidence with the material.

The Internet as a tool to facilitate content knowledge

Using the internet and technology as a tool for students to gather, define, identify, analyze, generate, compare and contrast information regarding content enables students to synthesize, comprehend, and apply knowledge within their content areas.
